Sun Seekers

After all of the planning and prepping leading up to the big day, you both deserve a bit of R and R, and where better to pop those feet up than on a sunny beach somewhere? You don’t have to spend a whole lot to get some sunshine on your honeymoon, although some of these destinations are pricier than others.

If you can’t quite make up your mind about your honeymoon, then Mauritius could be a great option - with a blend of Indian, Chinese, French and Creole cultures, you’ll feel like you’ve been on a mini-tour of the world rather than just in one place. This island offers sun, sea and sand as well as lots of wildlife and a whole load of romance.

Maldives

A honeymoon in the Maldives just sounds extravagant and impressive, doesn’t it? With pristine beaches, blue ocean and plenty of space to find a private spot to watch the sunset together, who wouldn’t want to spend their honeymoon in the Maldives… we really can’t think of anything more idyllic.

Seychelles

The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 gorgeous islands in the Indian Ocean offering beautiful beaches, stunning coral reefs and amazing (some rare) wildlife. There are four main islands which are ideal for honeymooners - Mahé, Praslin, Silhouette and La Digue all offer something different for holiday-goers. La Digue being best for beaches!

Take your pick from the crushed coral beaches of Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas (to name just a few). If you were feeling a little adventurous, you could go surfing in the beautiful Pacific Ocean, visit a few Aztec temples or watch a live wrestling match ("Lucha Libre") in Mexico City.

Spend a few nights in a unique treehouse resort, take a dip in the sea and spot a few animals as you soak in the sights and sounds of Thailand.

This might not be the kind of adventure you picture since Las Vegas is all about the nightlife, but everyone who goes to Vegas has some form of adventure, guaranteed. Make sure you grab a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, visit the Hoover Dam and go hiking in the Valley of Fire to get the outdoor thrills. Then live it large in some of the most famous casinos in the world.

Now, if you're going to make the trip why not consider spending longer in the US and travelling? Less money for the casino and more sightseeing? We'd be up for that.

Bali

If rafting through the rainforest and swimming with turtles or manta rays sounds like the perfect adventure honeymoon, then look no further than Bali. Not only are there plenty of experiences to be had, but you can also enjoy them all in the idyllic setting of azure waters, unimaginable white sand beaches and in amongst vast forests. Bali is also super romantic - after all, it is your honeymoon. Whether you’re looking for backpacking adventures or luxurious resorts, Bali has it all.

Canada

It may be a classic and often photographed view, but seeing it for yourself still is something special.

It can get pretty cold and snowy in Canada, so if this is the adventure you’re looking for, head there in winter and enjoy skiing in Banff or Whistler. Other sites of interest for any time of year are Niagara Falls, Whitehorse (where you might spot the Aurora Borealis), Vancouver Island, Lake Ontario and Prince Edward Island - these are just a few of the adventurous offerings that Canada has to offer. Make sure to grab some selfies with the impressive scenery.

For a really special adventure, why not consider a journey with the Rocky Mountaineer train? This luxurious train cuts through the Canadian Rockies and wows with spectacular views.

Do note that the train only operates from April through to October. There are no sleeper cars but there is accommodation along any route and you can book package deals online. Take a look, you'll thank us later.

Of course, there are so many great places to take your post-wedding trip in Europe, with loads of romantic destinations to choose from. Not to mention the stunning photo opportunities you will get - great for making everyone green with envy when you post them on your socials.

Disneyland Paris is also quite a popular honeymooning choice for anyone with a penchant for all things Disney. Other great honeymoon destinations in France include St. Barthelemy, Nice, Corsica and Bordeaux - wine tasting would make an ideal honeymoon activity don’t you think?

‘Staycation’ers

For those who don’t have the budget for an overseas getaway, there are plenty of great options right here in the UK. Sometimes you don’t have to look far to find the best honeymoon destinations. From spa breaks to hiking trips, you can still have an amazing holiday in the UK.

Spa Breaks

From the top of the country, all the way to the bottom, there are hotels and resorts offering spa experiences and pampering breaks for newlyweds that will make for a perfect mini moon.

Staying in the UK obviously isn’t going to guarantee sunshine, so getting treated to a luxe massage and then chilling by the indoor pool or lazing in the hot tub is the perfect alternative. If you love a good bargain, you could check out voucher sites like Groupon or Wowcher to see which spa breaks have the best deals.

Walking Holidays

Couples who hike together, stay together! The UK has so many sites of natural beauty and mountainous landscapes, so if you love being out in the open air and stretching your legs, you may want to consider places like the Lake District, Peak District or Snowdonia. Check out this post for the 12 Best Hikes in England. It’s not just England either: Wales, Ireland and Scotland all offer stunning scenery as you walk through valleys, crags and hills.

Why not keep the wedding spirit going and book out a grand stately home or huge barn conversion for you and all of your friends? This may sound like some people’s idea of hell, but sharing a nice break from the norm with people you love can make your honeymoon even more enjoyable. Choose somewhere with a hot tub or pool to add to the honeymoon feels.

Safari So-Goody

You don’t have to travel halfway around the world to see the earth’s stunning creatures, there are lots of animal parks, sanctuaries and safaris across the UK. True animal lovers might want to do a little tour and visit multiple places down the country - from Longleat all the way up to Highland Safaris and everything in between.

Considerations

There are a few things you should look into in order to ensure your holiday is perfect. Before you book those flights or deals, consider the following:

Travel Advice

Visit www.gov.uk’s Foreign Travel Advice page for the latest travel advice. The website covers everything related to safety and security, entry requirements, travel warnings and health. From the political situation to natural disasters, learn about any risks that may affect your honeymoon.

Health

Although the UK government’s website offers some great advice, for travel health we recommend checking in with your local pharmacist or booking an appointment with Boots for a free personalised risk assessment based on your destination.

Learn about the risks and get any necessary vaccinations or medicine (such as anti-malaria pills) well in advance of your trip for a worry-free break.

Travel Agency

Research your travel agency well. Go in to see them if they’re local or try calling if you’re going to book online. Have a read through their reviews to see if they can deliver issue free holidays and how they reach when problems do occur.

You want to have the reassurance and peace of mind needed to enjoy your trip and nothing is worse than booking with an unresponsive agency or one that offers poor customer service.

Accommodation

So you’re happy with the travel agency but if you’re staying in a hotel or resort, are you confident this will meet your expectations? As above, make sure to do your research and don’t assume anything: read through their list of facilities and amenities, look at recent photos, read reviews from multiple sources online (e.g. Google, Trustpilot) and get in touch with them for any special requirements.

So there you have it. Our recommended 2020 honeymoon destinations. We hope you feel fully inspired now.
